If evolution is true, then math is just something made up by our brains which are themselves the result of undirected evolution, and our thoughts are nothing more than chemistry.
If so, why does math work so well in describing the physical world?
Physicist and mathematician Eugene Wigner received a share of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1963 “for his contributions to the theory of the atomic nucleus and the elementary particles, particularly through the discovery and application of fundamental symmetry principles”; He wrote an article:
The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences
“the enormous usefulness of mathematics in the natural sciences is something bordering on the mysterious and that there is no rational explanation for it.”
“The miracle of the appropriateness of the language of mathematics for the formulation of the laws of physics is a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve.”
“It is difficult to avoid the impression that a miracle confronts us here, quite comparable in its striking nature to the miracle that the human mind can string a thousand arguments together without getting itself into contradictions, or to the two miracles of laws of nature and of the human mind’s capacity to divine them.”
